He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Jane Schafer (Webster); his parents, Richard Schafer and Rita Schafer (Dreckman); his sister Mary Lou; and his brother-in-law Norman Walker.
He is survived by: his children, Jill Godbersen (Kent) of Ida Grove, IA, Molly Cleven (Jeff) of Cumming, IA, Tyler, Hannah and Amy McGrevey (Sean) of Overland Park, KS; his siblings, Betty Hagler (Joel) of Huntington Beach, CA and Tom Schafer (JP Jones) of Linden, VA; and his children, William A. McCarthy, Honorary Pallbearers, Reed Godbersen, Carson Godbersen, Morgan Godbersen, Danica McGrevey (Rich Dodd), Megan McGrevey, Erin McGrevey and Prior. He is also survived by relatives and 24 nieces and nephews.
Mike spent many years caring for MJ as her Alzheimer's progressed.
