He is survived by: his spouse Geraldene Villhauer; his children, Glennis Miller (Kevin) of Atkins, Rose Sackett (Chris) of Urbana, Steve Ries (Jodie) of Central City, Lynne Ternus (Greg) of Dysart, Paul Ries (Karilea) of Vinton, Gene Ries (Kate) of Robins and Sarah Ries of Vinton; his siblings, John Ries (Ruth) of Hopkinton, Mary Brown (Ralph) of Edgewood, Joann Kruse of Petersburg, Frank Ries (Cheryl) of Hopkinton, Kathy Becker (Jerry) of Dyersville, Fred Ries (Sandy) of Manchester, Ed Ries (Eileen) of Hopkinton, Janet Thomas of Farley, Merle Ries (Sue) of Bernard and Marge Gaul (Larry) of Strawberry Point; and his parents-in-law, Ann Villhauer of Oxford, Janice Nelson (Dave) of Matherville, IL, Nancy Freeland (Chuck) of Waterloo, Mike Villhauer (Faith) of Lytton, Kirk Villhauer (Chris) of Swisher and Karen Vanorny (Leonard) of Solon. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
