He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerrit Surksum and Agnes Van Surksum (Kreykes); his spouse Andy Van Surksum; his siblings, Carrie Venema (Rich), John Van Surksum (Vonnie) and Bill; and his brothers-in-law, Mart Horjus, Marv Vink, John Bolkema, Arn Van Engen and Ken Kelderman.
He is survived by: his children, Michael (Nancy Van Surksum), Nancy (Dan Foster) and Brad (Kim Van Surksum); his grandchild Ryan Van Surksum (Cady); his great grandchildren, Addison Van Surksum and Jordan Van Surksum; his sisters, Ella Horjus of Grand Rapids and Wilma Vink of Sheldon; and his siblings-in-law, Betty Bolkema of Hull, Karolyn Van Engen of Sioux Center, Ann Feikema of Sioux Falls, Arlene Stellinga (Art) of Rock Valley, Lori Bruxvoort (Ron) of Erie, Colorado and Casey Feikema (Rose) of Luverne, Minnesota..
