He was predeceased by: his parents, John Brands and Gertie Brands (Otten); his wife Alyce Hoogland; his children, Kris Minton and Ed Brands; his grandson Mike Brands; and his brothers, Garrett (Bertha Brands), Bill (Effie Brands) and Everett Brands.
He is survived by: his daughters, Joleen (Randy Baumgarn) and Emily Brands Hanno of Fulda, Minnesota; his daughter-in-law Bethany (Derik Lampe); his grandchildren, Brenda Brands, Monica Murray (Cory), Steph Wolf (Sean), Michelle Groeneweg (Brian), Shannon Minton, Meredith Carter (Bill Arends), Brevin Brands (Brieannah) and Brianna Brands; and his brother Albert (Alice Brands). He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren.
