He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Jean Leveling of Salem; his friend Ron; his children, Greg Smithburg (Andi) of Mt. Pleasant and Rondi Smithburg of Salem; his daughter-in-law Michelle Smithburg; his grandsons, Jacob Smithburg (Beth) of Rochester, Brandon Smithburg (Rylee) of Fairfield, Dylan Smithburg (Malory) of Fairfield, Gage Smithburg of Boone, Grant Smithburg of Mt. Pleasant and Joseph Smithburg of Atlanta; his great grandchild Nessa Marie Smithburg; his sisters, Margaret Wilson of Deltona, Debbie Musick of Chariton and Chris Stringfellow of Meridan; his brothers-in-law, John Leveling (Marilyn) of Ft. Madison and Jerry Vickers of Mt. Pleasant; and his pet Odie.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 21st 2025 at 2:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home (408 N Broadway St, Mt Pleasant, IA 52641). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Salem Congregational Church (106 E Oak St, Salem, IA 52649).
