He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis Gavin and Helen Gavin; his daughter Cynthia Hoekstra; his great grandchild Rachel Hoekstra; his brothers, Dale, Joe and Charles; and his sisters-in-law, Pam and Janice.
He is survived by: his wife Joanne; his children, Rebecca Goodman (Joseph), Donna McElwee (Michael), Lester Gavin (Brenda) and Ray Gavin (Sheri); his stepchildren, Tod Mullins (Sarah), Sherri Shutt and Wayne Mullins (Ann); and his brothers, Jim (Dorothy), Bob, Ben, Frank (Helen) and Dave (Janette). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 27th 2025 from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the St. Marys Hall. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, February 28th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (101 St James St, St Marys, IA 50241).
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Pink Tractor Foundation or St. Mary's Fire Department in Don's memory.
