He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Steffen and Marcella Steffen (Singsank); his sister Marilyn; his brother-in-law Phil Zieser; his brother Gary; his sister-in-law Jean Steffen; his father-in-law Robert Lyness; and his siblings-in-law, Rolly Gager, Coleen, Rick Timmons and Sue Lyness.
He is survived by: his wife Marilee Lyness of Ryan; his children, Jamey Steffen (Julia) of Shallotte, Joanna Schaul (Chad) of Ryan and Jay Steffen (Colleen) of Washington; his grandchildren, Brady, Dylan Schaul, Amelia Steffen, Molly, Audrey and Zoey Steffen; his siblings, Marcia Gager, Dan Steffen (Barb), Mary Sweet (Steve), Margie Schneider (Bruce) and Greg Steffen (Mary); his mother-in-law Dorothy Lyness; and his in-laws, Jolene Ryan (Mitch), Bill Lyness (Stacey) and Jerry Lyness.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Carl's memory may be directed to the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight or Ryan American Legion Post 692.
