He was predeceased by : his parents, Herman and Minnie; his parents-in-law, Jacob and Agnes Vander Pol; and his nephew Kyle Clapp.

He is survived by : his wife Lila; his daughter Paula Van Dam (Mark) of Edgerton; his grandchildren, Katie Van Dam, Jacob Van Dam (Mikaya Herdle) and Joshua Van Dam; his daughter Julie Van Beek (Jason) of Crawford; his grandchildren, Kristin May (Tim) and Levi Van Beek; his son Michael Clapp (Jennie) of Sioux Falls; his grandchildren, Emily Clapp and Brooks Clapp; his brother David Clapp (Carolyn) of Federal Way, Washington; and also, Nelson Vander Pol (Joan), Myron Vander Pol (Gladys), Vernon Vander Pol (Mina), Wilmar Vander Pol (Christine) and Warren Vander Pol (Pat). He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.

Visitation was held on Thursday, June 13th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Trinity Christian Reformed Church (2020 8th St SE, Rock Valley, IA 51247). A memorial service was held on Friday, June 14th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
