He was predeceased by: his father Ira West Jr.; and his brother Tyrone West. He is survived by: his wife Ruth West of Des Moines; his children, Adrienne Johnson (Marc), Giovanny Martinez (Coleen), Marilyn Martinez (George), Alex West and Melanie Martinez; his grandchildren, Rosey, Maya, Dominic, Olivia, Myles, Sean and Liliana; his mother Lettie Mae Haynes (Kenneth); and his sisters, Valerie of Missouri, Sheila Green (Thomas), Emma Cruise (Joe) and Lettie Lee (Howard). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation was held on Saturday, November 9th 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Faith Lutheran Church (10395 University Ave, Clive, IA 50325). A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 9th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
