He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Schemmel and Emma Schemmel (Schroeder); his wife Louise Sohl; his brothers-in-law, Arnold Sohl and Dwayne Sohl; and his sister Wilma (John L. Grier).
He is survived by: his sons, Bill Schemmel (Mary) of Des Moines, Bob Schemmel (Deb) of Dexter and Roger Schemmel (Linda); his grandchildren, Heather Sweeney (Greg), Lisa Estes (Scott), Allison Hoyt (Jared), Susanne Schemmel, Lloyd Schemmel and Ben Schemmel (Cassidy); his great grandchildren, Owen Sweeney, Caleb Sweeney, Michael Estes, Conner Hoyt, Jackson Hoyt, Mason Hoyt, Sullivan Schemmel and Silas Schemmel; and his sister-in-law Betty Sohl. He is also survived by extended family and friends.
