He was predeceased by: his parents, John Barton and Blanche Schirmer Barton; his wife Rita Mae Klein; his siblings, Eileen Barton, Phyllis Oberfoell, Ray, Paul, Jim and Luke; and his son-in-law Keith Hayes.
He is survived by: his children, Madonna "Donna" Hayes of Rockford, IL, Vicky Smith (Vince) of Peosta, IA, Dawn Barton of Cedar Rapids, IA, Ron "Tuni" Barton (Mary Ann) of Dubuque, Randy "Haney" Barton (Marian) of Holy Cross, IA and Rick Barton (Julie) of Dubuque; and his sister Betty Stierman of Arizona. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rickardsville.
