He is survived by: his former wife Rose Brown; his pets, Harley and Sophie; his wife Sheri Gates; his children, Tara Cran (Scott) of Bode, Jody Gates-Bilbrey of Independence, Melissa Jlassi (Atef) of Webster City, Christopher Gates of Renwick, Jeremy Gates (Mary) of Goldfield and Ian Gates-McCaskey of Boone; and his siblings, Gerald Gates (Diana), Allen Gates (Debbie), Ann Gates and Janice Patton. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
