He was predeceased by: his parents, Karl Stabe and Amanda Heimgartner Stabe; his wife Elsie Sitzmann; his children, LuAnn Langel and Donny; and his siblings, Ralph, Rueben, Marvin, Esther, Hilda and Agnes.
He is survived by: his children, Bob Stabe (Sheila), Jeanne Petersen (Henrik), Randy Stabe (Shelley), Teresa Petty (Scott) and Dennis Stabe (Karlene); his grandchildren, Ben Stabe, Bryce Stabe, Jeff Lackore, James Stabe, Marcus Stabe, Tyler Petty, Dustin Petty, Brian Langel, Brent Langel, Caden Stabe, Chase Stabe, Christa Adamson, Missy Kerns, Marcia Masker, Brittany Stabe, Kaitlyn Stabe, Kaylee Stabe, Lindsey Petty, Miranda Stabe and Addison Stabe; and also Steve Langel. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and close family friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Vernon's name to Bavarian Meadows Assisted Living in Remsen and Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton.
