He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Portz and Clarinda Portz (Haupert); his son Steve; his wife Joan Ahlers; his parents-in-law, Andrew and Angela Ahlers (Buckley); his granddaughter Marissa Wolf; his great grandchild Malcolm Portz; his sister Geraldine; and his siblings-in-law, Bud Mousel, Jean, Gerald Portz, Delores, Raphael Portz and Patricia Lovely.
He is survived by: his daughter-in-law Karen; his children, Karen Wolf (Maynard) of Remsen, IA, Laurie Bates (Chris) of Clive, IA and Randy Portz (Karen) of Cumming, GA; his daughter-in-law Tammy Portz of Remsen; his grandchildren, Ryan Wolf of Remsen, Danika Ogrodny (Ryan) of Nashville, TN, Andrew Portz (Faith) of Columbus, MS, Vanessa Wolf of San Diego, CA, Brandon Bates (Paige) of Austin, TX, Allison Portz of Chicago, IL, Matthew Bates of Minneapolis, MN and Brady Portz of Remsen, IA; his great grandchildren, Oliver Wolf, Maddox, Isla Portz and Cecilia Ogrodny; his siblings, Jim (Dolores), Lyle (MaryLynn), Fred Portz, Janice Calder (Mike) and Michael Portz (Cindy Jones); and his siblings-in-law, Michael Lovely (Sharon Vande Hoef), Janiece and Charles Bohlke. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Remsen St. Mary's Church.
