He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Shrum and Lorine Driskell Shrum; his brother-in-law Gene Belknap; and his nephews, Todd Wilkins and Sammy McElroy.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Ann Benedict; his daughters, Tracy Porter and Wendy Friday (David) of Council Bluffs, Iowa; his grandchild Taylor Porter; his great grandchildren, Elijah Neighbors and Delani Neighbors of Bellevue, Nebraska; and his sisters, Shirley Belknap of Shenandoah, Iowa, Phyllis Trively (Vance) of Randolph and Barbara Wilkins (Leonard) of Council Bluffs, Iowa. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
