She was predeceased by: her father Tom Schwob. She is survived by: her husband K. Charles Fenton; her children, Jakeb William Fenton of Prairie City and Kayleigh Mackenzie Fenton of Arlington; her stepdaughter Rachel Palmer (Tim) of Buckingham, Fla.; her grandsons, Kane and Korbin Palmer of Buckingham, Fla.; her mother Claudia Stevenson of Des Moines, Iowa; her stepfather Michael Neary (Marci); and her sister Meghan Zierke (Kevin) of Johnston, Iowa..

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made directly to the Merilee Fenton Memorial Colfax-Mingo Scholarships through the Colfax-Mingo School.
