He was predeceased by: his parents, Sebastian Ries and Amelia Ries (Hronek); his son Richard Ries; and his siblings, Mary Ann Young, Don and Richard.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann Herman of Pocahontas; his children, Tom Ries (Diane) of Pocahontas, Carol Heissel (Dan) of Moville and Dave Ries (Olivia) of Lake Preston, S. D.; his daughter-in-law Cathy Ries of Salem, S. D.; and his sisters, Janet Schnabel of St. Cloud, MN and Claire Amelia of Santa Rosa, CA.. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.
