He was predeceased by: his father Edward; his wife Patricia Cockayne; his sister Rosemary Kelso; and his nephew Brian McCurdy. He is survived by: his stepsons, Dustin Flander of Mount Pleasant and Dennis Cockayne of Des Moines; his siblings, Lorna Flander of Oskaloosa, Luella Albers (Larry) of Van Horne, Gina Smith (Bill) of What Cheer, Don Flander (Wilma) of What Cheer and Richard Flander (Sue) of Tracy; and his close friend Wren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Marion County Humane Society or American Legion Post #108 of Pleasantville.
