He was predeceased by: his parents, Hundley Newton and Marie Magdalena Thompson (Gebing); his wife Cheryle Ann (Crandall); his son Tommy Joe "T. J." Thompson; and his brothers, Larry and Fred Thompson.
He is survived by: his children, Shawnda Poortinga (Mike), Kimberly Carmichael (Shawn) and Randy Thompson; his granddaughters, Kaylan, Aubrey, Kamryn, Olivia, Emma, Caroline, Abigail and Macy; his great grandchildren, Lexi, Lawrence and Henry; and his siblings, Bill Thompson, Marie Ellen McLaughlin and Rose Hosale.
