He was predeceased by: his parents, C. J. "Swede" and Theonita Nelson (Wellman); his daughter Mary; and his brothers, Ken and David Nelson.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Nelson of Persia; his children, John Nelson of Neola, Ted Nelson (Sheila) of Honey Creek, Jane Burke (Marshall) of Council Bluffs and Julie McPhillips (Steve) of Honey Creek; and his siblings, James Nelson (Beverly) of Persia, Kay Zimmerman of Kyle, Denis Nelson of Neola and Oran Nelson (Donna) of Neola. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren.
The family will direct memorial contributions.
