He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Gilmore and Leilah Gilmore (West); his siblings, Ivan, Rolland, Lester and Eleanore Conner; and his grandson Aaron Gilmore.
He is survived by: his significant other Cathy Deardorff; his son Christopher Gilmore of St. Petersburg, FL; his grandchildren, Lisa Kempf (Bob) of Jamaica, IA, Christina Wilson (Curtis) of Guthrie Center, IA, Sarah Cummings (Trey) of Baltimore, MD, Jonathon Kempf (Erin) of Middleton, ID and Rachel Gilmore of St. Louis, MO; and his great grandchildren, Lilah, Colt, Stella, Brooks, Eloise, Adaline, Dalen, Christopher, Patrick, Dominic and Sienna. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family has designated memorial donations to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in honor of the many dogs and cats Mert loved throughout his lifetime.
