He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Fred Gorter and Tena Gorter (Kelderman); his children, Howard, Harley and Rachel; his wife Ruth; his family, Howard, Melissa Gorter (Wergin), Lucas, Preston, Colin, Harley, Stacey Gorter (Talsma), Henry, Oliver, George, Rachel, David Dick, Hazel and Silas; his sister Norma Santema of Harrisburg; his siblings-in-law, Steve Bullerman of Burnsville, Karen, Rod Blackford of Hartford and Greta Wassink of Carlisle, Iowa.; his parents-in-law, Henry and Gertrude Wassink; his sister Beverly Bullerman; his brother-in-law Bob Santema; and his nephew Kelly Feikema.
Harold contracted Covid at the end of August 2020, and spent a month in acute care at MercyOne in Des Moines, and two months in rehab at The Bridges in Ankeny. God blessed his recovery and he returned home to his usual activities, while adjusting to the long-term Covid effects.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Covenant Reformed Church or Divine Hope Reformed Bible Seminary (Prison Ministries).
