He was predeceased by: his father Gene Hanson; his stepfather Leo "Jack" Johnson; and his stepbrother James "Dan" Johnson. He is survived by: his wife Daun Knapp of Wayland; his children, Shelly Davis (Ron) of Kalona, Sherry Knapp of Kalona, Samantha Tinnes (Mike) of Wellman and Cody Knapp of Wellman; his grandchildren, Owen McArtor, Kiera Davis, Preston Davis, Nolan Mohling, Matt Mohling and Barrett Tinnes; his mother Marilyn Johnson (Donohoe) of Parnell; his sister Mary Pat Hanson of Tiffin; his nephew Quinn Karsten; and his stepsiblings, Bill Johnson (Linda) of Iowa City and Margaret Safina (Vito) of Parnell.
