She was predeceased by: her father Merlin Arends; her sister Sue Arends; and her nephew David Robertson. She is survived by: her mother Mary Arends (June); her husband Paul Thomas "Tom" Riggs; her sons, Greg Mostrom (Heather) of Cedar Rapids and Benjamin Mostrom of Davenport; her stepson Luke Riggs of Davenport; and her siblings, Lindy Davis (Randy) and Bill Arends (Harriet) of Huxley, IA. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In 2009, Sandy was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, however the disease would never take away her smiling face or the love she had in her heart for everyone she met.
