He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, George Hammer and Lucile Hammer (Haidsiak); his wife Arlene; his children, Mike (Lori) of Panora, Pam Stark (Steve) of Wichita, KS and Suzi of Urbandale; and his sisters, Ida Marshall of Apple Valley, CA, Gladys Stauffer (Jack) of Independence, MO, Charlotte Grave, Annabel Walkup of Mt. Ayr, Georgie B and Mary Ann Harvey. He was also cherished by 8 grandchildren who loved him dearly, 7 great-grandchildren.
