He was predeceased by: his parents, James Claron and Beulah V. Shields (Bigger); his siblings, Jack, Joe, Shirley and Sharon; and his grandson Jered Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Merry Langer (Gai); his daughters, Jacie Smith (Brent) of Grimes and Page Arganbright (Tom) of Panora; his grandchildren, Jorie Kruger (Greg) of Ankeny, Garrett Arganbright (Kelsey) of Adel, Elly Arganbright (Deo Luyirika) of Belgium, Bryce Arganbright (Brittney) of Panora, Claire Arganbright (Juan Rosales) of Des Moines and Grace Arganbright of Spain; his great grandchildren, Aiden, Bria and Brecklin; and his brother Jim Shields. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Grimes.
