He is survived by: his wife Karen Van Polen of Oskaloosa; his close friend Thomas; his son John Christophel of Oskaloosa; his granddaughter Natasha Shipp; his sister Marilyn Witter of Pella; and also, Nikkia and Mercedes Shipp.
Family requests that memorials be directed to the Friends of Mahaska County Conservation rather than sending flowers.
