He was predeceased by: his parents, Nina Estes and Arvene Estes; his daughter Melissa Lynn Estes; his grandson Shane Michael Craver; his sister Mary-Anne Estes; and his son-in-law John Rauch.
He is survived by: his former wife Cathy Fenton (Behymer); his children, Clara Warren (Eugene) of Fremont, IA, James Scott Estes (Michele Nicholson) of Oskaloosa, IA, Merle L. "Sonny" Estes Jr. (Becky Swan) of Russel, IA, Brenda Loraine Estes (late John Rauch) of Oskaloosa and Ryan Craver (Sabrina) of Keomah Village; and his grandchildren, Melissa Upton (Cameron), Courtney McCalister (Stephen), Candace Turner (Jakob), Aaron Estes, Harlan Almond, Ty Shilling, MacKenzie Miller (Keegan Gordin), Steven Scott, Makayla Estes (Jayden Samson), Killian Craver and Michael Lee Barwick. He is also survived by his eleven great-granddaughters.
