He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Heaton and Louise Heaton (Moffet); his wife Kerry Mathew; his grandson Jordan Lee Heaton; and also, Charles and Louise Heaton.

He is survived by: his children, Steve Heaton (Kendra) of Oskaloosa, Cara Sage (Todd) of New Sharon, CJ Heaton (Jessica) of Omaha, Nebraska and Katie Freeman (Ryan) of New Hope, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Amanda Heaton of Oskaloosa, Lake Heaton of Oskaloosa, Arick Sille of Oskaloosa, Alex Heaton (Andrea) of Sigourney, Mikayla Adkins (Bret) of New Sharon, Abby Heaton of Omaha, Reed Heaton of Omaha, Grant Heaton of Omaha, Jesse Kilburg of New Hope, Minnesota, Dax Freeman of New Hope, Minnesota and Hallie Freeman of New Hope, Minnesota; and his sister Linda Binns (Bill) of Oskaloosa. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Mahaska Health Foundation and directed to the Hospice Serenity House or to the Minnesota Parks and Trails.
