He is survived by: his girlfriend Linda Greer of Fremont; his children, Pete Van Polen (JoEllen) of Fremont, Ron Van Polen (Barb) of Oskaloosa, Tim Van Polen (Bobbie Jo) of Searsboro, Steven Van Polen (Desiree) of Victor and Susan Young of Des Moines; his stepdaughters, Carrie Sease of Ankeny, Amanda Greer of Oskaloosa and Genevieve Greer of What Cheer; his grandchildren, John Curtis Van Polen, Scotty Lee Van Polen, Hayley Ann Van Polen, James Dean Van Polen, Riley Jordan Van Polen, Jake Van Polen, Erika Garr, Amanda Silvers, Austin Van Polen, Emily Van Polen, Natalie Van Polen and Taylor Van Polen; his stepgrandchildren, Amber Sease, Elizabeth Sease, Alyssa Johannes, Ann Dressa, Robert, Juston Dannels, Katlyn and Ethan Vance; his sisters, Wilda Collister, Karen Christophel, June Staab and Janet Martin; and his friend Bill Cooper. He is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren, six great-step grandchildren.
