He was predeceased by: his parents, James Donald and Barbara Jean McCartie (Purvis). He is survived by: his wife Mary Lue Jones May; his stepfather Conrad; his grandchildren, Meagan, Ali (Brandon), Maddie, Austin, Logan, Jenna and Marley; his brother Dan McCartie; and his close friend Roxanne Schultz of Oskaloosa.

Memorial contributions can be made to Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House.
