It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gordon M. Bates of Osage, Iowa, born in Mason City, Iowa, who passed away on October 19, 2020, at the age of 83, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Murl Bates and Greta Bates (Wernet); and his wives, Sonia Ann Hultman and Lelia Hansen. He is survived by: his children, Julie Bierbodt (Sterling) of Osage and Todd; his siblings, Lois Olson of Phoenix, Virgil Bates (Arlene) of Minneapolis, Joyce Cox of Thornton and Linda Leaman (Jerry) of Clear Lake; and his stepchildren, Vikki Fischer (Randy) of Mason City, Rosemary Barr (Dan) of Ames, Dixie Polle (Robert) of Sioux City, James Hansen (Christine) of Mason City, Kurt Hansen (Robin) of Minneapolis and Dawn Ethofer (Mark) of Ankeny. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
