He was predeceased by: his parents, John Ekdom and Hattie Ekdom (Visser); his brothers, Wayne Ekdom and Adrian Ekdom; and his sister-in-law Chris Ekdom.
He is survived by: his former wife Geraldine; his wife Gerry of Orange City; his son Barry Ekdom (Rebecca Arbogast) of Washington, D. C.; his grandchildren, Noah and Claire; his daughter Barbara Reece (Mark) of Des Moines; his grandson Joe Spradling (Nicole); his great grandchildren, Isabel, Tyler, Eliana and Brenda Hartig (Richard) of Dubuque; his brother Don Ekdom of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and also, Charlie Hartig (Katie), Albert, Mathilda, Wes Hartig (Allie), Nora, James, Marie Ekdom of Pipestone and Irene Ekdom of Sioux Falls.
