He was predeceased by: his parents, Dick Spaans and Tena Spaans; his wife Elizabeth Spaans; and his siblings, Nellie Bouma (Pete), Herm Spaans (Clazina), Cornie Spaans, Rev. John Spaans, Henry Spaans (Martina), Albert Spaans (Hermina), Dick Spaans (Mick), James Spaans, Adrian Spaans, Marvin Spaans, Andy Spaans (Doris) and Ben Spaans.
He is survived by: his children, Herbert Spaans (Lavonne) of Larchwood, Deborah Van Ginkel (Rallyn) of Inwood, Kevin Spaans (Ann) of Sioux Falls, Linda Roemen (Les) of Larchwood, Daryl Spaans (Jeanette) of Larchwood and Sharla Van Beek of Orange City, Iowa; and his sisters-in-law, Pauline Spaans, Joanne Spaans, Kathy Spaans, Elizabeth "Betty" Spaans, Rosalie Spaans, Betty Spaans, Beverly Fluit and Bernice Wiekamp.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, February 4th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Porter Funeral Home - Rock Valley (1704 15th St, Rock Valley, IA 51247). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 5th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation (1610 Main Street, Rock Valley, IA 51247).
