With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Joan Bonnema of Orange City, Iowa, who passed away on March 12, 2024 at the age of 93. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Joan Bonnema to pay them a last tribute.

She was predeceased by: her parents, John Hofmeyer, and Dorothy "Dora" Hofmeyer, Jr. (Niemeyer); her spouse Marlyn "Doc" Bonnema; her sons, Randy Bonnema, Dan Bonnema and Larry Bonnema; her grandchildren, Joellen Bonnema and Eric Bonnema; and her brother John Hofmeyer (Elma).

She is survived by: her daughters-in-law, Treva Bonnema and Deb Bonnema; her grandchildren, Jessica LaKose (Tyler), Jason Bonnema (Jenny), John Bonnema, Jodi Witte (Clay) and Jeremy Verschoor (Nikki); and her great grandchildren, Anissa Buller (Sam), Madison Verschoor (Jeremiah Watters), Macey Swift (Tanner), Sullivan Verschoor, Decker Verschoor, Dylan Bonnema, Kayle Bonnema, Brady Bonnema, Joellen Bonnema and Karlyna Bonnema. She is also survived by one great-great grandchild, August Watters; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorials will be given to the Orange City Christian School or the Unity Christian High School.

“Dear Family, though many of you may not know me I was very close with my Aunt Joan. Growing up the whole family in Iowa spent many times together for holidays and birthdays. Joan spent most Sunday afternoons with my mother (Evelyn Ludwigs) after both their husbands were gone. I was very grateful that Aunt Joan checked in with her weekly since I could only be in Iowa during the summer. I am so very sorry for your loss. I know she is reunited with Uncle Doc and her children in heaven. Much love.”
