He was predeceased by: his father Dr. Loyce Robert Fouts; and his brother-in-law Timothy Haynes. He is survived by: his mother Grace Ann Fouts of Onawa; his former wife Cheryl Haynes of Onawa; his son Dylan Fouts; his brothers, Dustin Haynes and John Fouts (Jody); his siblings, Mary Rae Fouts (Jim Moore) and Jim Fouts of Onawa; his nephew Raymond Fouts of Waukee; his grandsons, Noah Haynes and Zthan Gualazzi; and also, Kalea, Dylan Fouts of Onawa and Dustin Haynes of Fort Dodge.

Joe died from complications due to being infected with Coronavirus (Covid-19).
