He was predeceased by: his parents, William Schroeder and Luella Schroeder (Decker); his daughter-in-law Gala Padgett Schroeder; his nephew Alan Bahe; his parents-in-law, Frank Thyer, Richard and Donna Guenther; and his brother-in-law Phillip Thyer.
He is survived by: his wife Debra Schroeder of Oelwein; his children, Tim Schroeder (Jessica Logan) of Schaller and Gena Miller (Jesse) of Shell Rock; his granddaughter Gracyn Miller of Shell Rock; his siblings, Duane Schroeder (Janet) of Strawberry Point, Burnadene Vargason (Nyle) of Hazleton, Veniece Vandersee (Harold) of Oelwein and Mardene Bahe (Robert) of Oelwein; his siblings-in-law, Carol Thyer of Independence, Rick Guenther (Judy) of Cedar Rapids, Beth Guenther of Fayette and Janette Guenther of Fayette; and his stepmother-in-law Frances Thyer of Fayette. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
