He is survived by: his wife Lynn Marie Kane of John's Lutheran Church; his sons, Dr. Douglas Van Daele (Vance) of Iowa City, Aaron Van Daele of Fairbank and Eric Van Daele of Fairbank; his grandchildren, Ryan, Gracee, Sophia and Vance Douglas; and his in-laws, Rick Kane (Deb), Rod Kane (Karen), Lori Zuck (Rod), Lou Milks (Jeff), Rustie Kane (Lori), Lanett Kane (Sharon Duclos), Lisa Meier (Rick), Robbi Kane (Kelly), Ross Kane (Laura) and Rollie Kane (Melissa).

Visitation was held on Sunday, December 1st 2024 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home (309 1st Ave NE, Oelwein, IA 50662). A funeral service was held on Monday, December 2nd 2024 at 10:30 AM at the same location.

Memorials may be directed to the family for designation for track construction at Wapsie Valley High School.

Chuck Gardner wrote a sympathy message

“Lynn I am so sorry to hear about Jerry. My sympathy goes out to you and your family. I had my own troubles. On Wednesday late afternoon I was buried in a trench. I was crouching down by the last tile digging out big dirt balls. Then I got covered with mud and dirt. My son dug me out. It was a miracle. I am back home as of today with a new hip. So sorry I can not give you a hug. Love you Charla”
