He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Athey and Carolyn Athey; his wife Pauline Elizabeth Theis; his children, Danette and Brian; his siblings, Adrian, Daryl, Naomi, Lorna and Maxine; and his grandson Adam Bartels.
He is survived by: his children, David (Dixie) of Waterloo, Ronald (Deb) of Oelwein, Michael (Dawn) and Diane Leeman (Chris) of Tripoli. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
