He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Hoekstra and Sadie Hoekstra; his siblings, Robert Hoekstra and Beth Pranger; his father-in-law Mark Salzman; and his nephew Jesse Shipp III.
He is survived by: his wife Samantha Hoekstra of Ocheyedan, IA; his children, Kham Sounthala (Kayla) of Eldon, MO, Michael Sounthala (Kathy) of Ocheyedan, IA, Skyler Hoekstra of Ocheyedan, IA, Jeffery Whelan III of Eldon, MO and TaNeil Malcom (Devin Slykhuis) of Ocheyedan, IA; his grandchildren, Jacent Sounthala and Rylan King; his sister Gretta Nomanson (Duane) of Canistota, SD; his mother-in-law Verna Salzman of Ocheyedan, IA; and his siblings-in-law, Ruth Hoekstra of Ocheyedan, IA, Jerry Salzman of Ocheyedan, IA, Lorie Breuer (Ted Klein) of Remsen, IA and Crystal Harms (Steve) of Rushmore, MN. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
