He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Leroy Cunningham Sr. and Betty June Briggs; and his brothers, Larry, Donny and Johnny.

He is survived by: his wife Rachel L. Lawson of Norwalk; his children, Diana Kent (Dan) of Cedar Rapids, Traci Cunningham of Springville, Katie Hook of Des Moines and Michael Cunningham of Coalinga, CA; and his grandchildren, Elijah, Levi, Mitchell, Michael, Libby, Ayden, Aubree, Matthew, Evianna, Landon, Lincoln and Wyatt.
