He was predeceased by: his parents, Stanley Hruby and Ethel Hruby (Mueller); his sister Lue Ellen Larew; his brother-in-law Harold James Larew; and his brothers, Lloyd Hruby and Ray S. Hruby.

He is survived by: his wife Merlene Rose Knight; his nephews, John and Luke; his children, Janice Gregory (Michael) and John Hruby (Amanda Lynn-Hruby); his grandchildren, Anne Marie Gregory, Hailey Gregory, Clifford Williams, Mylissa Rehm and Monika Barnes; his brother Don Hruby (Cille); and his sisters-in-law, Shirley Hruby and Marie Hruby.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Richard's family or the Bird House – Hospice of Johnson County.
