He was predeceased by: his parents, Lee V. Thompson and Bette J. Thompson of Newton; his sister Marlene L. Bowers of Citrus Heights, CA; and his great-nephew Dale of Citrus Heights. He is survived by: his wife Marcia Lancaster-Thompson; and his children, Gary Thompson (Carla) of Newton, David Thompson (Pam) of Baxter, Steven Thompson of Kellogg, Dr. Michael Thompson (Anne) of Pella, Eric Thompson (Stacie) of St. Charles, Angela Crawley (Ronald) of St. Charles and Amber Bortner (David) of St. Charles. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
