He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerrit R. VanderLeest and Alice Parmelia VanderLeest (Hawkins); and his siblings, James, Dolores McMaster, Janet Eilander and Shirley Harris.
He is survived by: his family Carmen; his children, Robert VanderLeest Jr. (Traci) of Newton, Robin Repp (Randy) of Toccoa, Georgia and Randy VanderLeest (Melody) of Newton; his stepson Bryan Wedeking (Tiffany) of Newton; his grandchildren, Nicholaas VanderLeest (Mindy Schrader), Travis VanderLeest (Lacy Lear), Shawn VanderLeest (Holliana), Thad Repp (Faith), Ashley Fuller (Steven), Amber Vandiver (Matt), Skyler Wedeking (Abbie), Gage Wedeking, Ariel James, Ashton Finch, Kyzr James and Niyah James; and his sisters, Bev Supino (Carlo) and Roberta Lewis. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and neighbors.
Visitation was held on Thursday, April 3rd 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory (1115 E 19th St N, Newton, IA 50208-2539). A memorial service was held on Friday, April 4th 2025 at 1:30 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Newton Baptist Temple, UAW Retirees, or the Jasper County Senior Citizens may be left at the funeral home.
