He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl C. Mielke and Ada Mielke (McCauley); his wife Shirley Anne Mielke; his daughter Sherry Lee Defenbaugh; his granddaughter Mercedes Wathen; his grandson-in-law Sam Batterson; his half-brother Donald O'Neal; and his sister-in-law Geneva O'Neal.
He is survived by: his daughter Karen Wathen of Newton; his son-in-law Dan Defenbaugh (Cindy); his grandchildren, Kim Batterson, Danielle Roush (Billy) of Newton, Blake Wathen (Nyckolle Bisom) of Newton and Thomas Phanphasy; and his great grandchildren, Olivia, Jaxon Batterson, Athena, Ezekiel Phanphasy, Kayden Roush and Damon Wathen.
Visitation was held on Monday, February 17th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Reese Funeral Home (310 N 2nd Ave E, Newton, IA 50208). A memorial service was held on Monday, February 17th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dick's name to the American Heart Association or the Cancer Research Foundation.
