He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Birkenholtz and Minnie Birkenholtz (Thomason); and his siblings, Everett, Dean Birkenholtz and Thelma Anderson.

He is survived by: his wife Norma Jean Burk; and his children, Diana Birkenholtz, Denise Etter (Dwight), Patricia Birkenholtz, Charles Birkenholtz and Laura Wolfe (Dan). He is also survived by his five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
