He was predeceased by: his parents, Anton Benac and Lena Benac (Golic); his wife Mary Lee Bakalar; his daughter Cindy Koopman; and his siblings, Tina, Kathryn, Frank and Vince.
He is survived by: his daughters, Mary Jane O'Brien Chaplin (David) of Livingston, Loretta Tool (Perry Jones) of Newton and Tina Frein (Randy) of Mason City; his grandchildren, Cory O'Brien, Chris O'Brien (Marie), Holly Degen (Rick), Joel Tool, Skyler Tool, Joshua Lepley, Jim Koopman, Abram Frein (Cori) and Jordan Frein; and his brother John Benac of Muscatine. He is also survived by his 11 great-grandchildren.
