He was predeceased by: his wife Margaret. He is survived by: his sons, Chris Allen (Marcia) of North Liberty, Mark Allen (Emily) of Newton and Andy Allen (Mary) of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Sean Allen (Claire) of Omaha, Noah, Estella, Henry, Max, Charlie Allen of Newton, Ezra and Jonah Allen of Cedar Rapids; and his brother Jim Allen (Mary Kay) of Kansas City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Regina Foundation to establish The John and Margaret Allen Scholarship.
