We bid farewell to Jerry L. Schmidt (Newton, Iowa), born in Des Moines, Iowa, whose journey of life gracefully concluded on February 2, 2025 at the age of 86. Jerry touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. He was predeceased by: his parents, Glenn Harold and Flora Ellen Schmidt (Sprague); and his grandson Harry Schmidt. He is survived by: his son Bryant (Amy); his grandchildren, Noah, Grace and Ethan; his son Jeff (Robyn); his grandchildren, Sam and Raelynn; and his brother Chuck Schmidt (Darlene).

Visitation was held on Thursday, February 6th 2025 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Reese Funeral Home & Cremation Services (310 N 2nd Ave E, Newton, IA 50208). A funeral service was held on Friday, February 7th 2025 at 2:30 PM at the First Baptist Church (620 S 8th Ave E, Newton, IA 50208). A burial was held on Friday, February 7th 2025 at 3:30 PM at the Newton Union Cemetery (1600 W 4th St N, Newton, IA 50208). Jerry, at various times, could be found taking part in organizations such as Big Brothers-Big Sisters, RSVP, Project AWAKE, Jasper County Concert Association and the Newton City Band.
