It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gary James Van Gilst of Newton, Iowa, who passed away on August 7, 2022, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, J. Clair Gilst and Vera Van Gilst (Welch); his grandson Brice Udelhoven; his wife Karen Van Gilst; and his brother-in-law Ben Means.
He is survived by: his daughters, Lesa Chedester (Steve) of Newton and Jeni Wickliff (Dave Thomasson) of Newton; his stepchildren, Paula Thompson (Zane) of Grinnell and Brian Cool (Danielle) of Leawood, Kansas; his sister Serana Means (Michael Thompson) of Killduff; and his close friends, Ada Cormeny of Newton and Bill Udelhoven of Newton. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
